I run for my health and for my Uncle James, who's battling lung cancer. He's been so strong through his battle, encouraging me to step strong through the next level of races.

She ran the: Women's Quarter Marathon
I got into running during the lowest part of my life, when I didn't like how I felt or looked. I couldn't afford therapy for depression and anxiety, so I decided I'd try a more personal method of therapy. I was the kid who could never run a mile straight in high school, but I began to build up to one mile, then two, then three, then ten...

I began realizing that the more I was able to push myself towards the next stop sign or mile, the more I felt positive and at peace with where I was in life.

"Be brave!"
She's running the: Women's Quarter Marathon
She's running for: her health - physical and mental.

I started running because I wanted to lose weight and needed an activity that I could do for free. I kept running because it makes me feel powerful and keeps me motivated to challenge myself. Every time I run, I'm challenging myself to be better than yesterday - whether that is going farther or faster or just completing the miles that I put in my head for the day.

You go girl!

I run because my daughter "forced" me into it. She thought that I spent too much time at home alone doing nothing, and believed that I should get out and run as a way to tone up my body, meet women outside of the office, and forget that I was turning 70. So, I got off the couch and joined Katy Fit. Then, I started getting Personal Records, and fellow runners were starting to use me as an example for their family members. I lost weight, started to smile more, and got more ambitious. I did my first Half running "Angie's Half-Crazy" less than a year after I started running. And I finished!

I run for my health, I run because I'm in my 70's and people think I'm 10 years younger. But, Ladies, I do it for the medals and the BLING!

She's running the: Women's Quarter Marathon with her dad, Gordon Christie

Catherine has Rett Syndrome, but that doesn't stop her. She loves being a part of her dad's runs and she's excited to #runWQM with the hundreds of other strong ladies this January.
I got in to running because my dad got into running. I have Rett Syndrome and cannot walk for myself. But, when I go out with my dad, we can run. We have had some great times together, seeing other awesome runners and taking in the sights.

I run because my dad needs to run and we have fun together during our races. We hope to do the Boston Marathon when I'm over 18 so dad's going to have to keep his training up in the meantime.

I hated every day of training but I said "Don't quit, suffer now and live the rest of your life a champion"
She's running the: Women's Quarter Marathon
Who she runs for: I run for myself, my health, my family and for those that can't.
I was never really a runner, growing up I was a competitive swimmer so running was not in my vocabulary. After I graduated from college I moved to Houston for a job opportunity. Moving to a new town not knowing anyone was very tough on me. I wanted to start losing some of the weight I had gained from college and moving and become active again but didn't know where to start. I started running/walking at the office gym, at the time I was lucky to run for 10 mins without stopping or feeling like I was going to die, then someone in my office mentioned to me once that Houston has a very large running community and there were many clubs around town that I should join. I thought you have got to be kidding me, I am not a runner and the people that are in these clubs will leave me in the dust!! So I started "liking" running clubs in the Houston area to "feel" out the people. About that time I received a message from one of the club presidents at City Centre Run Club encouraging me to come out run with them, he told me that there were different levels of runners and that I would not be the slowest. It took me sometime to work up enough courage to go and once I went I was hooked. I went ever week and whether I walked the course or ran it there was always people there to encourage me.

I have made some life long friends by joining the running community and love seeing everyone out at the races encouraging not only me but others and actually met my husband through the run club.

My first "race" if you could call that was the Hot Undies Run, a 2 mile run in my underwear (way outside of my comfort zone but I did it) From there I started to sign up for 5Ks and completed by first 10K within about 6 months of joining the City Centre Run Club. Since then I have completed numerous 5Ks and 10Ks and completed 4 half marathons and will be doing the Aramco Half in January along with the Woman's Quarter Marathon.

I might not be the fastest runner but at the end of the day I have completed what I set my mind to do and have enjoyed the journey so far.
